The general manager of Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Sur (Edesur), Milton Morrison, explained on Wednesday that “heat is the main cause of breakdowns and power outages that have occurred in recent days.”
He made this known through his Twitter account, where he also assured that the high temperatures cause an increase in the cost of the monthly electricity bill.
“This heat causes customers’ electricity bills to go up because household appliances are working harder,” he added.
He also justified the increase in the sector’s financial deficit.
¨EDESUR had yesterday the historical record of demand. The impact of this energy increase is great. This forces us to increase the government subsidy and look for a lot of US$ money to buy energy from generators, increasing the sector’s fiscal deficit to maintain the 99% supply we have today. Before, 84-86% of the demand was supplied,” he emphasized.
The official also called on the population to use electricity efficiently in order to “take care of everyone’s pockets.”
