Major Renovations Underway at Las Américas International Airport

Santo Domingo: Las Américas International Airport (AILA) in Santo Domingo is set to undergo extensive renovations, including the development of a new passenger terminal, with a substantial investment of $250 million, Aerodom announced on Monday.

Project Overview

During a press conference, Aerodom’s general manager, Mónika Infante, shared insights about the modernization project. These enhancements are part of the obligations outlined in the concession agreement, which allows Aerodom, a subsidiary of the French international company Vinci Airports, to manage six state airports in the Dominican Republic until 2060.

New Passenger Terminal

The new passenger terminal is currently in the design phase, with construction scheduled to start in 2025. The terminal will be designed to handle four million passengers annually, addressing the increasing demand for air travel in the country.

Hotel Development

In addition to the terminal, a new hotel will be constructed, spanning 8,000 square meters across three blocks. The hotel will feature 150 rooms, approximately 120 parking spaces, conference rooms, a dining room, a restaurant, a swimming pool, and a terrace with a bar and restaurant area offering sea views. Carlos Núñez, Aerodom’s director of non-aeronautical business, revealed that the hotel will be managed by IHG Hotels & Resorts under the Holiday Inn brand. Construction is slated to begin soon and is expected to take 20 to 22 months to complete.
