The Iberostar chain of hotels in the Dominican Republic was certified as a “Green Key” establishment for its contribution to sustainable development of tourism by implementing sound environmental practices in all its facilities.
The facilities certified are the Iberostar Dominicana, the Iberostar Punta Cana, the Iberostar Bavaro and the Iberostar Grand Bavaro, all in Punta Cana.
In Bavaro, also on the country’s eastern region, the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus in Bayahibe while the Iberostar Costa Dorada, in Puerto Plata, were also certified.
The “Green Key” certification confirms the commitment by the international hotel chain to provide an environmentally-friendly environment in its facilities.
The “Green Key” certification process is part of a program sponsored by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), a non-government, not for profit institution with institutional representatives from 64 countries registered as members (www.green-key.org.)
The organization is represented in the Dominican Republic by the Environmental Law Institute. Before issuing the certification, a rigorous survey is carried out to make sure that the facilities being considered for the “Green Key” certification process meet the organization’s standards.
