Dominican authorities restrict the entry of Haitian nationals

Dajabón, DR.- Due to the severe crisis and insecurity engulfing Haiti, Dominican authorities have implemented restrictions on the entry of Haitian nationals into Dominican territory as a precautionary security measure.

Only Haitian students attending schools and universities in the border city and merchants who source goods from the binational market are permitted entry into Dominican territory.

Similarly, foreigners of other nationalities in Haiti seeking to cross into the Dominican Republic are granted entry to ensure their safety, provided they have valid documents.

On the Haitian side of the border bridge, hundreds of Haitians are awaiting approval from Dominican authorities to enter.

Haiti is currently grappling with a crisis marked by the stench of death, intense shootings, looting, clashes with the police, kidnappings, and arson. Displaced persons camps and residences have been abandoned by hundreds of people seeking to avoid becoming victims of armed gangs terrorizing the country.

Amidst the chaos, the head of armed gangs in Haiti, Jimmy Chérizier, also known as ‘Barbecue,’ has declared that Prime Minister Ariel Henry must resign. If not, he warns that the country is headed towards “genocide.”

Chérizier asserted, “If Ariel Henry does not resign, the country is heading directly towards genocide. If the international community continues to support Ariel Henry, we are heading directly towards a civil war that will end in genocide.” Armed with a powerful rifle and a long-range weapon, ‘Barbecue’ places responsibility on the international community, primarily the United States, Canada, and France, for the recent violence and numerous deaths in Haiti.

He emphasized the relentless fight against the current administration, expressing a willingness to ally himself with any means necessary to achieve his goals.
