Abinader demands vote recount to validate Venezuela election results

Santo Domingo.- This Monday, President Luis Abinader expressed concerns about the electoral process in Venezuela. In messages shared on his WhatsApp and X channels, Abinader emphasized the need for transparency to ensure the legitimacy of any electoral process.

“I express my deep concern about the electoral process in Venezuela, as transparency must be the foundation of its legitimacy. Electoral rules cannot be applied arbitrarily,” the president stated.

President Abinader insisted that electoral rules should not be applied arbitrarily and stressed the importance of a vote recount with international verification to validate the election results.

“A recount of the votes with international verification is essential to recognize the result,” he said.

This statement came shortly after the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela officially declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the presidential election. The CNE announced that Maduro, who has been in power since 2013, won the election with 51.2% of the votes, which has been rejected by the majority opposition and much of the international community.

“Defeating fascism, the demons, the female demonesses, is a historic feat, and our people have done it, our people have done it again,” Maduro said after receiving the credential from the president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso, allowing him to govern the country until 2031.
